“Open the great book of nature and trace therein the wisdom, the power, and the love of the Creator” (Patriarchs and Prophets, page 48).
Sabbath is a wonderful time to look for evidences of God’s character in His creation. It is a special time to look in nature for God's wisdom, power, and love!
Let’s begin with wisdom. God is all-wise; He knows the answer to every problem. He knows the needs of each of His creatures.
Preparation: Look up the definition of wisdom, and find passages on this subject in the Bible and Spirit of Prophecy to share. For example, “O Lord, how manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast Thou made them all: the earth is full of Thy riches” (Psalm 104:24). Have paper and pencils ready, and gather as many nature identification books as possible (the local library should have some).
Action: Share what you discovered about wisdom from the dictionary and inspired writings. Give each person a pencil and paper and, if possible, a nature identification book. Pray that God will guide you as you look for ways nature shows the wisdom of God.
Spread out, using the nature book to identify things you find. As you read about each object, look for what it reveals about the wisdom of God. Write or draw what you find.
Application: At the end of this activity, gather together and share your findings. Sing a song that shows God's wisdom, such as "Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise."
