Canoeing Day!

Last Thursday, the YD Staff took a little excursion out on the lake during our lunch hour.

The kids came along and helped carry the paddles.

In this world, all good things must come to an end. Kezzia Keener and Tony Evert pull the canoe up onto shore.
Soon our lake will ring with the laughter of dozens of campers. See you there!

Memory Texts for June 29–July 5

Happy new quarter! We're excited about the YD lessons for July through September: The Power of Prayer.

Of All the Week the Best: God's Wisdom

“Open the great book of nature and trace therein the wisdom, the power, and the love of the Creator” (Patriarchs and Prophets, page 48).

Those Juniors, Part 6: More Natural Phenomena

by Eric B. Hare

Last week: There are certain actions and habits that are common to most children at different stages of their development. Last week we looked at restlessness, curiosity, credulity, imagination, and imitation. This week we will continue our study of these natural phenomena.

In Touch

Dear Young Disciples,

When I was a little girl, I loved to pick flowers—and I still do! As a child, I’d go out in the fields and come back with bouquets of dandelions or bachelor’s buttons, and stick them in a glass of water.

The dandelions wilted right away, of course. The bachelor’s buttons lasted a little longer, but soon they flopped over and dropped their petals.

Sometimes my grandmother let me pick the pansies and asters and zinnias in her garden; but they, too, faded after a few days.

Key Thought:

Heaven is a place worth gaining. If we want to be part of God’s eternal Kingdom, we can prepare by allowing Him to make us citizens of it while we are still on Earth.

Trigger Text:
“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9).

Those Juniors, Part 5: Natural Phenomena

by Eric B. Hare

Last week: There are two ways to study a child: objective study and subjective study. Objective study notices what is observable from the outside; subjective study enters into a child’s viewpoint, to see and feel and think like a child, through the process of introspection.

Continuing our objective study of children, and comparing them in the various age groups, we discover certain actions and habits which are natural and, with but slight variation, common to all. Let us notice some of these, as the realization of just how natural they are at certain times of life gives us some idea of what we can expect, and helps us to be prepared for what may be coming next.

In Touch

Dear Young Disciples,

Maung Soe Thin is the boy in the white shirt.
“All right, time for vocabulary!” I gestured for my students to close their books.* Excited dismay rippled around the classroom as notebooks rustled shut. As we worked down the vocabulary list, many of the students faltered—but, as usual, one voice came through strong every time—too strong.

I turned around to see just what I expected: Maung Soe Thin (pronounced Maw-so-thay) at the back of the room, chin in hand, his notebook propped open on his desk!

Key Thought:
God forgives every sinner and every sin; but He cannot forgive a sin that is unconfessed and unforsaken. This is what is often called the “unpardonable sin.”

Trigger Text:
“Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men” (Matthew 12:31).

Bring a piece of summer to someone shut indoors! This creative activity will be fun for you and a blessing to others.

Those Juniors, Part 4: Studying the Child

by Eric B. Hare

Last week: To speak and teach with confidence, one must know what they are talking about. A knowledge of the Bible is our source of authority. One must also know their pupils. A knowledge of the pupil is the secret of applying the lesson to his life.

There are two methods by which we can study children: the objective method and the subjective method.

In Touch

Dear Young Disciples,

During our honeymoon in the San Juan Islands, my husband and I decided to do something extra special: whale watching. Poring over a handful of brochures, we noticed a key difference between the tours: while all boasted of their captains’ experience, some companies guaranteed we would see whales—or receive a free voucher for another tour if we didn’t.

We chose a guaranteed tour, but I still wondered if we would truly see whales. How could one boat search the whole Puget Sound to find them?

Key Thought:

If we do not yield our worship and obedience to God now, we will not be able to stand when the U.S. works with the papacy and apostate Protestantism to enforce Sunday laws.

Trigger Text:
“And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon” (Revelation 13:11).

Stressful Situation

by Danielle Gerber

I walked into the classroom feeling nervous and anxious. Even though I had studied for my accounting test, I couldn’t get rid of the worry inside. My heart pounded as the teacher passed out the tests. “God,” I prayed, “please help me do well and make the right choices.”

Those Juniors, Part 3: Vital Knowledge

by Eric B. Hare

Last week: What is the true secret to power and success for those striving to influence their juniors for God’s Kingdom? They themselves must have a living, vibrant connection with Christ—an experimental knowledge of the true Source of power.

Another fundamental truth so self-evident that we could call it a spiritual axiom is that a thorough knowledge of the subject matter is necessary before we can speak with authority. Clothes and wealth may produce a superficial appearance of superiority, but they will not produce confidence. For that feeling of confidence that you know what you are talking about, there is no substitute. We must know.

OK, now about this week.

Key Thought:
This week's lesson might seem a little more challenging, but it's important—and there's good news that goes with it. Here's why: Each person in the world will soon need to choose to whom they will give their worship and allegiance. Although there will be much pressure to accept the mark of the beast, we do not have to yield. God offers to seal our minds with His Law, and promises eternal happiness to those who refuse to worship the beast power.

Trigger Text:
“For the great day of His wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?” (Revelation 6:17).
